Jesuit missionaries reported salty brine springs around the southern end of what they referred to as “Salt Lake”, known today as Onondaga Lake in honor of the historic tribe. Binghamton Geomorphology Symposium Syracuse University has been selected to host the 49th annual Binghamton Geomorphology Symposium on October , This international conference brings together leading scholars in geomorphology and a themed topic. The topic of our symposium will be Sediment complexity within geomorphological systems.

It has become a consensus that processes controlling sediment initiation, transport, and deposition are complex both in space and over time. Understanding the complexity of these processes at different spatial and temporal scales require collecting and analyzing data with different levels of detail, which may be achieved by using a variety of field, experimental, and modeling approaches, possibly combined with advanced technology such as remote sensing and sediment tracing and dating.

New ideas and concepts out of these approaches often arise from interdisciplinary collaboration among scientists in geography, geology, environmental engineering, and other relevant disciplines. The 49th annual Binghamton Geomorphology Symposium provides a forum for innovative thinking and potential collaboration.

But state prosecutors won’t be bringing any criminal charges against Fine for the alleged abuse, which the coach adamantly denies. The statute of limitations in both cases expired nearly two decades ago — just two years after his accusers, now in their late 30s, passed their 18th birthdays. Fine can’t be sued either: In a growing number of states, legal reforms now allow victims of childhood sexual abuse to seek civil damages and criminal charges against their alleged abusers many years after reaching adulthood.

The reforms are an acknowledgement of substantial research demonstrating that abuse victims often require an extensive period of time before they are ready to confront their abusers. In the last week, two lawmakers announced plans to introduce legislation extending the time period when victims of childhood abuse can seek criminal charges and civil restitution against their abusers.

A previous bill to reform New York’s child abuse laws passed the Assembly three times, but was repeatedly stymied in the state Senate after heavy lobbying by Catholic bishops, who vigorously opposed a key provision to temporarily lift the civil statute of limitations for decades-old abuse. Yet the intense publicity now surrounding the Syracuse and Penn State scandals may finally push the vote for a reform bill over the top in New York, according to Marci Hamilton, a law professor at Benjamin N.

But it wasn’t to be. Davis was diagnosed with a highly toxic form of leukemia shortly after being drafted out of Syracuse University, where he starred at halfback and defensive back. He died May 18, For 45 years, nearly twice as long as Davis lived, his legend held strong among friends, acquaintances, fans and family members. The stories have grown more hushed over time, as some of those who knew him have died or grown to where their recollection has become somewhat of a faint memory.

It is a dramatized story, but it captures the essence of a man who was one of the greatest college football players of his time and the first Negro — his societal designation in that era — to win the Heisman Trophy, college football’s greatest prize. He was a guy who had all this talent. We were dealing in the most volatile times in America — the ’60s. Ernie, me, we were in all of that.

He had that thing. He just simply didn’t know better, the same way someone who never has had three square meals doesn’t realize he’s not getting what most would consider a normal day’s nourishment.

Human vision and cognition. Light falling on the two-dimensional retina comes to elicit a world of objects in three-dimensional space. I study the mechanisms that the human visual system uses to construct these objects of perception and cognition. Current and recent research is directed toward understanding the mechanisms of binocular vision and stereoscopic depth perception, determining the computations behind the perceived motion of objects in complex environments, exploring the brain’s coding of color information, and demarcating the limits of attention.

The methods I use are those of psychophysics, which aim to uncover the functional mechanisms of vision by measuring how task performance varies with the properties of the stimulus and the state of the observer. At the current time, members of the lab are concentrating on stereopsis:
